LANDESK Announces Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) Certification

Security Suite Completes Authorized Testing to become FDCC Compliant

SALT LAKE CITY--(EON: Enhanced Online News)-- LANDESK Software, a global leader in endpoint protection, announced today that it has enhanced its LANDESK Security Suite by incorporating an FDCC Scanner and related content, which enables government entities to scan their desktops for Federal Desktop Core Configuration standards. This valuable function helps administrators perform automated configuration checking and remediation of end point systems against the FDCC checklists to understand the level of compliance within the enterprise. The scanner also determines what end points need updating or warrant an exception, ensuring that federal agencies are meeting the U.S. Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) FDCC mandate.

The mandate requires that all Federal Agencies standardize the configuration of approximately 300 settings on each of their Windows XP and Vista computers. The reason for this standardization is to strengthen Federal IT security by reducing opportunities for hackers to access and exploit government computer systems. All government-furnished Windows-based computers (whether operated by Government or contractor staff) are affected by this mandate. The certification and validation comes via testing conducted under the auspices of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), which confirms that LANDESK's Security Suite meets the Security Content Automation Protocol (SCAP) and its component standards. LANDESK underwent rigorous testing and was measured against NIST's benchmarks in order to receive government endorsement.

"The FDCC Scanner is a significant addition to our multi-layered security portfolio, and helps Federal agencies understand their security and compliance posture," said Howard Bangerter, Product Manager at LANDESK Software. "We can now offer our government customers an even more complete security solution, and we are pleased to have obtained this validation."

Independent laboratories conduct the tests contained in the SCAP Validation Program Derived Test Requirements Document, on information technology (IT) security products and deliver the results to NIST. Based on the independent laboratory test report, the SCAP Validation Program then validates the product under tests based on the independent laboratory test report.
